Three finalists have been chosen for consideration to fill the vacancy in Johnson County created by District Court Judge William Isenhour’s retirement.

They are: Thomas Kelly Ryan of Shawnee, a partner in the Overland Park firm of Gates, Giles, Shields & Ryan; Neil Foth of Lake Quivira, a partner in the Overland Park firm of Foth & Orrick; and District Magistrate Judge James Phelan of Overland Park.

The finalists, who were selected by the 10th Judicial District Nominating Commission, will be forwarded to Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, who will appoint Isenhour’s successor.

Seven attorneys elected by all licensed attorneys in the county and seven non-attorneys appointed by the County Commission comprise the nominating commission.

It interviewed 14 area attorneys and two district magistrate judges to select the finalists.
